Butlertown Productions is looking to cast parts for Hand-me-down Heartache The Musical. Auditions will be held December 1, 2012, in Indianapolis. This musical stage play is adapted from the #1 Essence Bestselling Novel, Hand-me-down Heartache by Tajuana TJ Butler. It is an inspirational drama about a young lady and her family’s journey of breaking the cycle of family abuse. For your talent and contribution, you will receive a small fee, a credit, a reel, and more importantly, additional experience. This will be a great opportunity for actors and actresses who are either triple or quadruple threats (sing, dance, act, and in some cases are comedians) and would like to be a part of a dramatic musical stage play that has the potential to become a touring play.

Nina — Main Character — Female, 20s. African American. Recent college graduate. Natural Beauty, confident, yet still finding her way. Must have a strong singing voice, strong acting skills and the ability to dance.
Maurice — Male, 20s. African American. Recent college graduate. Arrogant, Professional Basketball Player. Nice physique. Must have a strong singing voice, strong acting skills. Must be able to dance some.
Leo — Male, 20s. African American. Recent college graduate. Intelligent, Conscious Rapper, has dreadlocks and sex appeal. Must be able to rap and sing, strong acting skills. Must be able to dance some.
Janelle — Female, 20s. African American. Recent college graduate. Trendy, fashionable, confident, strong personality. Prefer someone with comedic timing. Must be able to sing, act and dance.
Brice — Male, late 20s – late 30s. African American. Main Character’s Brother. Owns a spa. Well-groomed. Prefer someone with comedic timing. Must be able to sing, act and dance.
Brianna — Female, 25 – 35. African American. Brice’s girlfriend. Subtle strength, subtle wisdom. Must be able to sing, act and dance.
Patricia — Female, late 40s – 60s. African American. Reserved, tentative, but loving and nurturing. Must have a strong singing voice, strong acting skills and the ability to dance some.
Smitty — Male, 50s – 60s. African American. Good father, nice smile, yet horrible husband. Must be able to show dark side, sneaky. Must be able to sing, act and dance some.
Ms. Vera — Female, late 30s — 60s. Open to anyone. Wedding planner. Must have huge personality, really strong singing voice (i.e. Aretha Franklin, Patty LaBelle) and comedic timing.
