Earl met Pearl in college. At the time Margaret was in High school but that didn’t stop her. Pearl was just using Earl because he had a car. The more Pearl dissed him the more Earl became infatuated with her. He would buy her expensive gifts, sing songs, write poems, or whatever he felt he had to do to secure her. Margaret was astonished by Earl’s passion for her sister that it rubbed off on her. She began to open the letters he wrote her sister, accept her gifts, and sometimes she would even pretend she was her sister when he called. Through her deception she made Earl fall in love with her.
