One of Shakespeare’s late-career romances, The Tempest is a complex story that straddles the world of reality and the world of magic: After being cast adrift by his usurping brother, Antonio, Prospero, the rightful Duke of Milan, lands on a desolate but enchanted island along with his daughter, Miranda.

Prospero perfects the art of sorcery and in a long plotted act of revenge some twelve years later, creates the perfect storm. His spirit servant, Arielle magically shipwrecks Antonio and his entourage on the island, thereby setting off a string of events that will result in true love, enchantment, merry drunkenness and of course, a happy ending wherein Prospero discovers the power of forgiveness, declaring in an awe-inspiring final soliloquy, “The rarer action is in virtue than in vengeance.”
