Disney’s award winning show “Newsies” is holding auditions online for singers
The show is looking for possible replacements for the show’s main cast and are holding auditions for principal roles. The auditions are for Equity talent and are by appointment only. The casting directors are currently taking online submissions only.
The Disney musical is based on the 1992 film produced by Walt Disney Pictures which starred Christian Bale, David Moscow, Bill Pullman, Robert Duvall and Ann-Margrett. The show is inspired by the actual New York City Newsboy Strike of 1899 and tells the tale of homeless kids who hustle newspapers to make a few bucks. The Broadway musical won a Tony Award for it’s choreography and is produced by Disney Theatrical Productions.
Performers are asked to download the audition materials, record an audition video, upload it to Vimeo and send the private link to the casting directors for consideration. See each individual role listed below for links to the audition materials.

[JACK KELLY] Male, 18 – 22 years old, Caucasian. Handsome, passionate and charismatic leader of the Newsies. A street-smart kid with a dark artistic soul right beneath the bluster. Not a blowhard. This kid’s the real thing. Must have a great pop tenor voice. LEAD

[KATHERINE PLUMBER] Female, 18 – 22 years old, Caucasian. The strong willed daughter of Pulitzer. This young lady drips smarts, opinions and confidence. A young Katherine Hepburn or Ellen Page. This damsel needs no prince to save her. Must have a great pop/contemporary musical theater voice with a high belt. PRINCIPAL

[DAVEY] Male, 18 – 21 years old, Caucasian. A thinker. Raised in a home as opposed to the other Newsies, Davey is the book-smart counterpoint to the other boys. The voice of reason. A nice Jewish boy. Must have a great contemporary tenor voice. PRINCIPAL

[LES] Male, 10 -12 years old, Caucasian. The fearless kid brother of Davey. Excited by everything the world has to offer and eager to join in the adventure. Fun is this kid’s middle name. Must sing really well. PRINCIPAL

[CRUTCHIE] Male, 18-22 years old, any ethnicity. A slight, sickly boy with a huge heart. He walks with the aid of a crutch due to a bad leg, but that doesn’t hold him back from being right in the middle of any mischief. A real charmer. Should have a great contemporary, musical theater, tenor voice. PRINCIPAL

Once you have made your video, please upload it to Vimeo (with a password). Then, email us the link, password and a photo and resume to newsies.casting@gmail.com.
Video recording tips:
If you are using an iPhone please video in horizontal/landscape orientation. NOT vertical/portrait orientation.
Please make sure you are in a well lit room/space.
Your backgroud should be a solid color with nothing else in the frame.
Please keep the frame waist up only for sides and songs. For dance we need to see your full body the entire time.
Make sure the camera/microphone is positioned equal distance from you and the piano or accompanist track. Also, keeping in mind the above as well.
What is the submission deadline?
