By | June 4, 2015

Netflix is working on a new television series called  “The Get Down“.

Can you pull off a  great 1970’s, Soul Train look? How about a 70’s Sunday church look? The new Netflix series, “The Get Down”  is looking for both.

The Get Down” is now filming in the New York City area and is in need of African American and Hispanic extras who can do a 1970’s look (no piercings, modern hair cuts, etc.).The show has an immediate need for thin, African American and Hispanic extras who are 18+ but can still pass for teenagers. Men applying for the “teen” roles must have a waist that is 34″ or smaller and ladies must have a waist size 29 or smaller. Please see the photos below for examples of looks the casting directors are going for.

The new Netflix series is filming 13 episodes for the 1st season.  Baz Luhrman is heading the project which focuses on the early days of hip hop and punk rock.  “The Get Down“ will be set in 1970s NYC, a time when New York City was cash strapped and plagued with street violence and urban decay.  According to Variety, Baz had been working on the project for the last 10 years and the show is finally about to begin production. “Get Down” will be Baz Luhrmann’s first TV series. Luhrman is best known for his films “Moulin Rouge,” and “The Great Gatsby”.

The Sony Pictures drama will showcase the city’s emerging music scene.  The 70s saw an explosion in music genres and gave birth to punk and hip hop.  According to a story in Variety, “The Get Down”  is about a group of teens living in NYC during that time in one of the most crime ridden neighborhoods of the time, the South Bronx.
