“Nina”
Shefali Vasudevan. Nina, a young singer songwriter, is unable to perform at the memorial service of her grandfather’s funeral, the man who originally inspired her to write music.
First, through a series of interactions with her family who include her sister, father, and grandmother Nina finds her inspiration to write music again. Simultaneously she is trying to regain confidence during open mic performances. Through a combination of these two things she learns to write music again and heal after her loss.
Nina’s Father (40s) caucasian: a loving man eager to travel and learn about the world as well as care for his daughters.
Nina’s Grandmother (60s+) caucasian: a quirky but supportive and independent matriarch of the family
Talia (18-24) caucasian: the energetic and supportive older sister of the main character
Extras: Any age, any ethnicity, any gender: Extras are needed for a cafe and open mic scene
“Bulldog”

A macho-aggressive delinquent when in school and an older brother figure at home. He is an extremely volatile, hedonistic, and insecure boy who, underneath his bad-boy persona, just wants to be loved and accepted. He knows that he must be an adult-figure to his younger brother but his feelings of alienation in society makes him prone to act out. Must know how to speak Mandarin. Knowing how to pull a Queens/Brooklyn accent is a plus.

A stern, stoic business-like man who tries to handle everything including issues pertaining to family with a professional attitude. He is an emotionally distant parental figure who tries to mask his own insecurities and paternal failures by trying to appear successful. He believes American youths are lazy, careless, and weak. Must know how to speak Mandarin.

An emotionally distant mother who lounges around the house and who still feels deep sorrow and insecurity over the destruction of her previous marriage. She is not very good at communicating with her children and is extremely neglectful towards them. Must know how to speak Mandarin.
