Open Casting Calls in VA for Speaking Roles in Major Hollywood Film “Loving”

A major film production is coming to the Virginia area this fall and will be holding auditions for new talent. If you have always dreamed of landing a speaking role in a film, here is your shot.

Auditions for both speaking and non-speaking roles will be held in Richmond, Petersburg and Bowling Green later this month. The open casting calls are scheduled for Thursday the 25th, Saturday the 27th and Sunday the 28th. The movies casting directors are looking for talent of all ages to fill many paid speaking and non-speaking roles. The production is looking for talent of all ethnicities and are especially interested in talent with expressive faces, talent of mixed ethnicity, kids ages 0 to 6, mothers to be, African American talent, Native Americans and grandparents.

The film, “Loving,” is being directed by Jeff Nichols and will be filming around the Richmond area this summer. The project will tell the story of the Richard and Mildred Loving, an interracial couple whose plight and marriage went all the way to the supreme court and changed history with the 1967 Supreme Court case ‘Loving v. Virginia.’ The case sparked national change after Richard and Mildred Loving, an interracial couple, were sentenced to prison in Virginia in 1958 for getting married. At the age of 18, Mildred became pregnant, and in June 1958 the couple tried to avoid Virginia’s Racial Integrity Act of 1924 by getting married in D.C.  After they returned, an a anonymous tip caused local police to raid their home and arrest them both for violating the act and getting married. According to the film’s IMDB page, Joel Edgerton will star as Richard Loving and Ruth Negga will play his wife, Mildred Loving.

Casting directors are hoping to find some great, undiscovered talent in the area. Casting directors for the film, Erica Arvold, commented “We are thrilled to be working on such an important story,” and “I look forward to discovering some new talent and faces at these open calls.

Loving” will begin filming in Virginia this September.

“Producers are looking for residents of all ages and ethnicities, especially older adults, children and families of African American, Native American, Caucasian and mixed heritage. African American and mixed ethnicity children ages 0-6, expectant mothers of all ethnicities, and African American Grandparents are encouraged to attend. They are also seeking experienced bricklayers, blue-collar construction-worker types, politicians and business types, teachers, drag race hobbyists and period car mechanics … Acting experience is not necessary and if selected for a speaking or a non-speaking role, compensation will be on the scale of other professional productions.”

Thursday, June 25, Bowling Green Town Hall, 117 Butler Street, Bowling Green, Va., from 2 p.m.-8 p.m. Parking is available in a lot at Town Hall.

Saturday, June 27, Artworks, 320 Hull Street, Richmond, Va. from noon-4 p.m. Parking is available in the adjacent paid lot or on the street. Please DO NOT CALL Artworks directly for directions or information about this project.

Sunday, June 28, The Black Swan, 9 W Old Street, Petersburg, Va. from noon-6 p.m. Parking is available in a lot behind the building along Pike Street or on the street.

Talent of all ages is welcome to come and try out for one of the many open paid roles. Talent does not need an appointment and acting experience is not required in order to be considered.

Folks wishing to try out need to bring a photo of themselves that they can leave with the casting directors as well as an acting resume, if they have one. Photos do not need to be professional, a current, in focus snap shot is OK.

Those coming to audition are asked to bring 2 copies of their headshot / snapshot and resume with them.
