“Urban Cowboy” TV Series Casting Call in Austin TX

Fox Television has a new TV show in the works, “Urban Cowboy” inspired by the 1980 John Travolta and Debra Winger film.

The 80s film is getting a modern day remake as a TV series and talent in the Austin area may apply to be considered for small roles as extras and featured extras in the pilot.

In “Urban Cowboy” Debra Winger and John Travolta starred as Bud and Sissy.  The movie focused on a farm boy who comes to the big city and falls for a girl.  Scenes were set in the famous Gilley’s bar and included lots of line dancing and the Texas rodeo culture.

According to a Rolling Stone article, at a Television Critics Association function, Fox Television CEOs Dana Walden and Gary Newman talked about the show’s development and commented about the upcoming pilot filming this September. Newman explained that the show would borrow from the film but be a completely updated series…. Newman said  “There will be elements from the film that are there, but it’s definitely current day.” Newman went on to say that FOX has put the series on the “fast track” and is hoping for a mid-season, 2016, release.
