Casting “Tag” a Cal Arts MFA thesis film.

“Tag” is a story of a young man’s journey to uncover the whereabouts of his older brother and is led to rediscover ancestral folklore and magic along the way. The story takes place on Sapelo Island, one of the barrier islands off the coast of Georgia. Allen lives with his Mother in Hog Hammock, a small Geechee community on the island with a population of about 50 people who are direct descendants of the slaves who worked the land over 200 years ago. After Allen spots his missing brother with a strange man he decides to investigate.

Rehearses and shoots Oct. 8-17 in Sapelo Island, GA.

Please email head shot and reel if interested. Include your availability for the week of Oct. 11-17 in your cover letter. Note: No professional acting experience necessary. Any relation to the Gullah & Geechee culture or knowledge of the language is a plus.

Allen: Male, 18-22, African American, African Descent – Role Description: a senior in high school, average height. Not very athletic. Allen lives with his mother on the island and does his share of work to help pay the bills. He has an entrepreneurial spirit and a grand sense of curiosity.

Celia: Female, 35-50, African American, African Descent – Role Description: a middle aged single mother, lives in the same community she grew up in and loves her home. She can be stubborn and does not like change. She works two jobs and raises her son on her own.

Isaiah: Male, 22-28, African American, African Descent – Role Description: in his last year of college studying herbal medicine and agriculture. He loves plant life. He has currently gotten a new apprenticeship working with a local root doctor. Isaiah is reserved, responsible and always willing to give a helping hand. One thing he does not like is his hometown.

Dr. Buzzard: Male, 45-65, African American, African Descent – Role Description: a legendary root doctor in the south east. He makes a living traveling along the coast helping people with ailments using root magic. He is summoned to the island by Celia to help with her depression.

Thelma: Female, 50-65, African American, African Descent – Role Description: the matriarch of the family, loves to tell stories about the rich history of the island and its people.
