[ABI] [GENDER: FEMALE OR MALE] [AGE: 3-7]
Abi is a precocious thirty-something professional who works in a high-powered job in the financial district. He was recruited by the boss’s daughter, who mistook him for someone she once knew. Abi enjoys what he does, but his office life doesn’t come without its consequences. He thinks of himself as an outsider – a Type B person in a Type A environment. Not even the nearby lunch spots suit him. Everything is sushi to go, and he prefers sitting down to a sandwich. He gets along with his coworkers fine, but after he once made an off-color joke about the Pope, they stopped inviting him out.
Abi lives alone in a small house, where he feels the most comfortable. At night, he loves reading the funny pages and spends a lot of time dreaming about becoming a pilot.
Abi walks into exhibition room towards stage right, sits down at the table, and starts reading the newspaper. He takes a section of the paper, folds it, and unfolds it [the “subway fold”]. After repeating this a few times, he folds the paper into an airplane and casts it across the room. This continues until the newspaper is gone.
When Abi has run out of paper, he walks around the room and begins flying planes he picks up off the floor.
