I’m looking to get my kids into acting (extras), commercials, modeling, even, but they are young. How can I get them involved?

Hi Tina, you pretty much just need to keep an eye out for things that fit them in your area. Casting directors do not make up the roles nor are they able to drastically change the specs. Casting directors work for the show producers, directors, etc. who are looking for people that fit specific roles. If a role calls for a 16 year old, then that is what they need to cast. There are child work laws that productions must comply with. Young children are not allowed to work for more than a few hours, that is why there are so many castings for twins, trips, etc. The older the child, the longer they can work. That is why many productions cast adults, 18+, that look young, to play high school teens. For the reasons I just mentioned, I would not recommend you submit your young children to roles that do not fit their age. If you submit to roles that do not fit, in the least, the submissions will simply get ignored. At the worst, your email will be added to the “spammer” list and submissions for roles that actually fit will go directly to the spam folder, never to be seen.

Most extras casting directors have a database they keep. You can add your kids to their database so if they do need children their age, they are able to find you.
