Fire Escape Films is a long-running student organization at The University of Chicago. We are currently beginning casting for our winter semester films.
Plot : Late one night, the sitting President of a nation is alerted to a developing international crisis; however, the intelligence seems inconclusive. As the President is a hopelessly indecisive individual the debate over what to do is dominated by his subordinates: the Secretary of Defense and the Secretary of State. He and the Secretary of State wage an epic battle for the mind of the President as the entire world hangs in the balance.
LOOKING TO CAST-
THE SECRETARY OF DEFENSE: (middle aged or older; M or F) The anti-hero. A frothing-at-the-mouth warmonger who craves death and destruction. He is a hardcore imperialist and is terrified that China might become powerful enough to challenge American hegemony. He has an extremely forceful and magnetic personality and therefore finds it easy to control the President.
THE PRESIDENT (20s to 30s; M or F) The President is a young, good-looking, charismatic individual, but easily manipulated; only qualifications are really being able to read a teleprompter. When faced with making an actual decision, the president shies away.
THE SECRETARY OF STATE: (middle aged or older; M or F) “The good guy” type; a rational thinker who wants to resolve disputes through diplomacy rather than bloodshed.
VOICE: (middle aged or older; M or F) A mysterious, shadowy figure; high ranking member of the military and a member of the imperialist conspiracy. The Secretary of Defense talks to this individual briefly about the situation, and orders a squadron of F-22s to provoke the Chinese into attacking. Small offscreen role.
THE ASSISTANT SECRETARY OF DEFENSE FOR POLICY: (middle aged or older; M or F) One of the Secretary of Defense’s henchmen; interjects from time to time to give information about the crisis. Small role.
*Shooting will take place over about 7 weekends, starting in mid January.

Grithelm
A Sci Film, “Grithelm” details the journey of Private Voll and the robot “UG-3” as they set out together on a military mission to counter an invasion of some mysterious alien presence on an ice glacier. The success of the mission will determine the fate of humanity’s survival on Earth.
LOOKING TO CAST:
Private Voll (Male, 20s): A skilled young military operative charged with the task of deploying the robotic military unit UG-3 to combat an alien threat.
General (Female, 30s): A highly disciplined young General in charge of directing the military operation, “Grithelm”.
UG-3(Robot): A robotic military unit specially equipped to combat an alien threat.
General Berg(Male, 40s/50s): Burly, tall and stern, General Berg is concerned about the viability of operation Grithelm.
General Spillum (Female, 40s/50s): Like General Berg, she also remains concerned
about the intel for operation Grithelm.
General Haugen (Male, 40s/50s): A General who is a proponent of backing out of operation Grithelm.
*Shooting will take place over about 7 weekends, starting in mid January.
