Community Asian Theatre of the Sierra (CATS) is pleased to open its 24th Season in the Spring of 2018 with the Rodgers and Hammerstein’s musical, SOUTH PACIFIC. Auditions are on September 23 (1-4), 24 (1-4), and 25 (6-9) at the Nevada Theater, 401 Broad Street, Nevada City, CA. Show dates are April 12 to May 5, 2018, and rehearsals commence in late February. CATS welcomes the return of Susan Mason and Jeffrey Mason (Miss Saigon). They are sharing the helm in directing and musical directing. We are seeking talent of all ages, including teens (and roles for a couple of kids), male and female actors, actors/singers, and actors/singers/dancers to fill up to twenty-five roles. Performers of all ethnic and racial backgrounds are encouraged to audition. All roles are available. A few roles are speaking only, requiring no singing or dancing.
SOUTH PACIFIC is an all-time favorite, a classic, featuring such popular show tunes as .Some Enchanted Evening, There Ain’t Nothin’ Like a Dame, I’m Gonna Wash That Man Right Outa My Hair, Bali Ha’i, and, Younger Than Springtime. The haunting lyrics to You’ve Got To Be Carefully Taught speak volumes of issues confronting us today. Although SOUTH PACIFIC made its debut almost 70 years ago on Broadway, its messages are just as relevant then as they are now. SOUTH PACIFIC is a timeless masterpiece.
