The Bacchae

STUDENT FILM seeking NONUNION, UNPAID actors.

The Bacchae tells the story of the Wagners in 1930s Germany, when the Nazi party was just beginning its rise to power. With their safety threatened, the Wagners must learn how to survive amongst monstrous people without becoming monsters themselves.

Klara Wagner (Lead), 20-30: Klara is intelligent, but rash. She often acts without thinking. Klara is Deaf and uses American Sign Language to communicate. When her brother is killed because of the Nazi policies, she seeks revenge in the only way she knows how – by going after the man responsible. ACTOR MUST BE DEAF OR HARD OF HEARING.

Karl Acker (Lead), 25-30: Karl is the Nazi officer in charge of the small town where this story takes place. Though he is a Nazi, he has a soft heart. He doesn’t want anyone to die, but still believes that Nazism is best for the nation.

Charlie Acker (Lead), 18-24: Charlie is the younger brother of Karl. Struggling with his own ambitions – instead of what his brother wants for him – Charlie’s journey is one of self-discovery. He is soft and scraggly. He prefers to tinker with things alone.

Ada Wagner (Supporting), 20-30: Ada is the sister-in-law of Klara. She is hearing abled but uses American Sign Language to communicate to Klara and Sam. After the death of Sam, her husband, Ada is conflicted. Though she wants restitution, she knows that Klara’s rash actions will not have the results she intends. ASL knowledge not needed, but preferred.

Sam Wagner (Supporting), 20-30: Ada’s husband and Klara’s brother. Sam struggles with mental illness in the wake of trying times. He uses American Sign Language to talk to his sister, even though he is hearing. He is an outgoing jokester. ASL knowledge not needed, but preferred.

Frank Wagner (Supporting), 50-60: The father of both Karl and Charlie. He is quiet and kind, looking to foster the talents of both of his sons. He doesn’t conform to the Nazi beliefs, but pretends he does for the sake of his family.

Harvard Campus, Cambridge, MA: Saturday, November 10, 9am-5pm
Keene State College: Keene, NH: Sunday, November 8, 9am-5pm

Rehearsal Dates: Roughly:January 21-26

Production Dates: Roughly: Feb. 1-3, 8-10, 15-17, 22-24
