Bed Of Nails
In the summer of 1981, college-bound Andy travels to Inuvik, Nunavut, Canada to re-unite with his estranged father, Cezar. As the town’s minister, Cezar is intent on converting Andy while he dreams of drilling for black gold between booze binges and working dull jobs. In Inuvik the sun doesn’t set during the summer and Donald(the blind Inuit who lives in Cezar’s mud room) enlightens Andy’s journey. Profits benefit Pauktuutit Inuit Women For Abuse Prevention, Health and Socio-Economic Development.
Available roles:
CEZAR- male, aged 45-70, European-Canadian, solemn, gentle, fled Nazi-occupied Poland; gives every cent he earns to building a new church for his congregation; occasionally drinks and has a relationship with the Deaconess. Emotions are icy for him; a condition of living in bitter isolation. All ethnicities welcome.
DONALD- male, aged 45-70, Inuit native, proud, tough, mental inhabitant of traditional Inuit customs; likes to laugh and tell tales of the old days.
MULTIPLE SUPPORTING ROLES open to male OR female: DAVID- aged 30-40, Canadian, dedicated preacher friend of Cezar/ LEN- aged 30, Canadian; gregarious, goofy grocery store supervisor/ COOK- aged 40, Canadian, humorous, jaded friend of Cezar.
REHEARSAL AND PRODUCTION Dates and Locations: Rehearsals are July 16 to August 23 in East Falls mon., tues., and thurs. at 7pm. Performances begin at the Rotunda: Aug. 25 at 8pm and 26 at 3pm/ FUMCOG Aug. 31 and Sept. 1 at 8pm/ Sept. 8 at 8pm and 9 at 3pm at Mount Airy site TBD.
