CASTING FOR THE ROLE OF HOWIE:
HOWIE – 40s. Indigenous / Native American. Husband to Melanie and father of Nicholas. He’s kind and caring, but firm. Helps Melanie to see her true potential and encourages her in everything she does. A bit of a jokester, but shows concern when Melanie and Nicholas are struggling or hurt.
PLOT DESCRIPTION:
Melanie Bridgewater is thrust into a situation she isn’t ready for after her small town votes her into office as Mayor. In so doing, they set off a chain of events that lead to a widespread public conversation about American civics. Melanie is overwhelmed by her new job, but discovers she has a unique opportunity to hear the voices of the founding fathers first hand with help of a time travel machine handed down to her through the family. Journeying back to the founding of America and meeting with the founding fathers, Melanie learns their intentions and aspirations for a new nation and they in turn learn of what America has devolved into – a country of apathetic people and disjointed political parties – something they never intended to happen. Through their sage advice and perspective, George Washington and Benjamin Franklin help Melanie find her strength to fight for the country they created and in the end prove that every voice, no matter how small, can make a difference.
CHARACTER BREAKDOWN:
MELANIE – 40s. African American. (ALREADY CAST – JUST HERE FOR CONTEXT). Melanie is an anxious woman thrust into a situation she can’t control and isn’t ready for. But through the loving support of her family and the ability to time-travel back to visit the founding fathers, Melanie is able to find her voice and help save her town from corrupt forces who want to destroy it.
