Theater Auditions in DC for “A Shayna Maidel”

Peace Mountain Theatre Company is holding auditions for A Shayna Maidel by Barbara Lebow.

Auditions will be held:
Sunday, July 8, 1:00 – 4:00 pm
Monday, July 9, 7:00 – 10:00 pm
Tuesday, July 10, 7:00 – 10:00 pm (call backs)

All auditions will be held at Congregation Har Shalom Synagogue, 11510 Falls Road, Potomac, MD 20854

Actors will be asked to read from a script and should bring a headshot, resume, and conflict dates to the audition. The script will be sent to you via email should you choose to audition. Peace Mountain is a professional company and as such, pays all its actors.

A Shayna Maidel opens October 11 and continues on October 13, October 14, October 18, October 21, October 27 and October 28. All performances will be held at Congregation Har Shalom.

CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS

“Mordechai Weiss” – 50-70; father to Rose & Lusia. Yiddish accent. Dignified & elegant man with strong beliefs.

“Rose Weiss” – to play 20s. No accent. Happy and effusive American working girl; loves her family. Will experience profound changes.

“Lusia Weiss” – 20s thru early 30s. Yiddish accent. Just arrived to America. Has experienced Nazi concentration camps. Very cautious, searching, tentative.

“Duvid” – 30s-40s; Lusia’s husband. Yiddish & American accent. Has experienced & survived concentration camps. Playful, tender, & loving.

“Hanna” – early 20s, will also play a teenager; Lusia’s best friend in Europe. No accent. Will not survive WWII. Goes from happy teen to tortured soul.

“Mama” – 30s – 40s; mother of Rose & Lusia. No accent. Will not survive concentration camp. Loving mother who willingly sacrifices for her family.

A Shayna Maidel takes place after World War II in the home of Rose Weiss, with flashbacks to life in Poland. Flashback scenes move fluidly in and out of time before the war/during the war and 1946 (present time).
