CHARACTER BREAKDOWNS:

INVERSION: Ensemble Piece

About the Play
Adam, a socially awkward mathematician, especially with women, laments his inability to find the “hot” woman of his dreams to his best friend, Brendan, who seems to get any woman he wants. Thus begins the spiral into dating and love and relationships as Brendan encourages Adam to date a low self esteemed slightly older woman, Rhonda, in order to help Adam learn how to date. In meeting up with Rhonda, Adam finds his hot woman: Natalia, Rhonda’s roommate. Thinking he’s finally met the woman of his dreams, Adam forges ahead with Natalia thinking maybe he can also ease his mother’s concerns about his well being as she declines into her own world of Alzheimers.

Please note: These characters will seem like stereotypes, until the story unravels, as do each of them on their own journey of self discovery.

ADAM – Male, any ethnicity, late twenties, think Sheldon in Big Bang Theory in terms of the character, NOT in terms of looks or ethnicity please. This character can be anyone! (The writer originally played him in the Hollywood Fringe debut, and he is East Indian.) He is a mathematician, who is terrible with women as he is in too much awe of them, especially “hot” women. His best friend doesn’t help much with his terrible advice about the ladies either.

BRENDAN – Male, any ethnicity, early twenties, is a player and often gives very bad advice about women to his best friend Adam. He initially comes off like a bit of a jerk, but as his journey unfolds, as with all of us, there is so much more there to see.

RHONDA – Female, any ethnicity, 28-35, size 14 and over please, must be able to sing! She is a rather insecure woman who hasn’t really grown past her early twenties in maturity yet but by the end of the story, you see a woman who comes into her own and truly believes in her self worth.

NATALIA – Female, Russian, 20s, model type, Russian accent a must. She is what we all think of as the “hot” girl, but she’s incredibly smart and funny and well, maybe so much more than we’d like to give her credit for.

JENNIFER – Female, any ethnicity, mid to late 40s, early 50s, hints of that model type when she was younger, Adam’s mother who is on the decline from early onset Alzheimer’s.
