Auditions in Detroit for “The Book Club”

The Book Club Play Auditions.

Auditions are August 12 and 14 at 7pm at Peace Lutheran Church 17029 W 13 Mile Rd, Southfield, Michigan 48240.

Performances will be October 25 – 27, November 1 – 3, and 7 – 9 at Peace Lutheran Church.

Seeking actors for the following roles:

Ana Smith (pronounced ah-nuh): A columnist for daily newspaper , the “mother bee” her grace masks a need to control. Beautiful, charming, smart, accomplished, organized.

Robert Novum Smith Jr.: Ana’s Husband, golden boy, handsome, charismatic, under achiever husband who is starting to search for meaning. Met Ana in college, upper crust background

William Lee Nothnagel: Robert’s conservative, well read, well dressed disciplined, college room mate. Ana’s former boyfriend, history buff, unmarried

*Ana, Robert and William need to be the same-ish age, since they attended college together.

Jennifer McClintock: Ana’s friend, pretty, shy, smart, tends to bust out with awkward truthful comments. Despite some lack of self confidence, she is the grounding center of the group. Unorganized and oblivious to her own attractiveness. Unmarried.

Lily Louise Jackson: Go-getter, former debate captain who is on the cusp of all current trends and yet can still put her foot in her mouth in social occasions. Laughs at appropriate and inappropriate times. A great lover of books and Ana’s protege at the paper. African-American.

Alex: The new guy, a very smart, well-read academic who has lost his moorings and is searching for real connection. Professor of
comparative literature.

Elsa – Jaded literary agent
Mrs. Simpson – Sky diver

Synopsis: Loads of laughter and literature collide in this smart hit comedy, about books and the people who love them. Ana is a Type A personality who lives in a letter-perfect world with an adoring husband, the perfect job and her greatest passion: Book Club. But when her cherished group becomes the focus of a documentary film, their intimate discussions about life and literature take a turn for the hilarious in front of the inescapable camera lens. Add in a provocative new member along with some surprising new book titles, and these six friends are bound for pandemonium. Sprinkled with fun theatrical references to documentaries and novels galore from Moby Dick and Age of
Innocence to Twilight and the DaVinci Code, this buoyant comedy on contemporary culture will have everyone laughing and reflecting. The Book Club Play is a delightful new play about life, love, literature and the side-splitting results when friends start
reading between the lines. Set in present day in the living room of Ana and Robert Smith.
