Oklahoma City Auditions for “Godspell”

Auditions announced in the Oklahoma City area for the musical “Godspell.”
Oklahoma City Parks & Recreation will hold an open casting call for Godspell, a musical by John-Michael Tebelak.

About Godspell:

Godspell premiered off-Broadway in 1971. Created by composer Stephen Schwartz and librettist John-Michael Tebelak, the musical is based on the Gospel of Matthew and features a series of parables and teachings by Jesus Christ.

The show is known for its upbeat and energetic music, which draws inspiration from a range of musical styles including rock, pop, and gospel. It also features a cast of colorful characters, including John the Baptist and a group of disciples, who help to bring the teachings of Jesus to life.

Despite its religious subject matter, Godspell has a universal message of love, compassion, and acceptance, which has made it a popular musical with audiences of all backgrounds and beliefs. It has been performed in numerous countries around the world, and has been adapted into multiple film and stage productions.

Auditions Notice:

April 28-29 at the Taylor Recreation Center, 1115 SW 70th St.
Audition times are 7 to 10 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
Callbacks will be held Sunday, April 30.

Performers must be 18 or older to audition. Register for an audition time slot at okc.gov/performing-arts.

“We are looking for 11 funny, creative and dynamic performers of various backgrounds and experience levels,” performing arts program coordinator Isaiah Williams said. “The actors will play the roles of Jesus, Judas/John the Baptist and an array of other characters and storytellers.”

Auditioners need to prepare a 32-bar cut of an upbeat musical theater or pop song and bring sheet music. An accompanist will be provided.
