Open Auditions for Kids in Universal’s “Wicked” Filming This Summer

Auditions for the “Wicked” Movie.

“Wicked” is finally coming to the big screen and there is an open casting call for the role of young Nessa Rose.

The character being cast in this open casting call is described as a 4 year old version of Nessa, Elphaba’s beautiful but lonely sister who has spent her entire life in a wheel chair. The role calls for a mixed race child and the casting directors are seeking a child that requires a wheelchair.  If you have a child that fits that description, the casting notice is listed further down this page and those wanting to apply can do so online.

The movie is set to premiere sometime in 2024 and is being directed by Jon Chu. According to the movie’s IMDB page, the cast includes Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible, Jeff Goldblum as the Wizard, Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, Jonathan Bailey and Ariana Grande stars in the role of Glinda.

The popular Broadway musical will be filming in London this summer and a talent search is under way to fill the role of a 4 year old Nessa Rose.

About Wicked:

Wicked” has become one of the most successful shows in Broadway history. In 1998, Universal Pictures purchased the film rights to the book, with the intention of turning it into a movie musical. However, the project was ultimately scrapped, and the rights were eventually acquired by producer Marc Platt, who saw the potential for a stage adaptation. Seems now they are filming the movie.

The show is based on the novel “Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West” by Gregory Maguire, which was published in 1995. The novel reimagined the story of “The Wizard of Oz” from the perspective of the Wicked Witch of the West, and became a bestseller, capturing the imaginations of readers around the world.

Wickedis a musical that has captured the hearts of audiences all around the world since its debut on Broadway in 2003. The show, which is based on the novel by Gregory Maguire, tells the story of two unlikely friends: Glinda, the popular and beautiful Good Witch of the North, and Elphaba, the green-skinned Wicked Witch of the West.

Over the years, “Wicked” has become a cultural phenomenon, breaking box office records and winning numerous awards. The show has spawned international productions, as well as a popular soundtrack and merchandise line. It has also helped launch the careers of many talented performers, including Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth, who originated the roles of Elphaba and Glinda.

 

The musical begins with the two witches meeting as young girls at Shiz University, where they both attend school. At first, Glinda and Elphaba despise each other, as they are polar opposites in terms of personality and social status. Glinda is bubbly, popular, and well-liked, while Elphaba is serious, introverted, and an outcast due to her unusual appearance. However, as they are forced to spend more time together, they gradually begin to develop a bond that ultimately transforms into a deep and enduring friendship.

The music and lyrics of “Wicked” are also a major component of its success. The show features several iconic songs, including “Defying Gravity,” “Popular,” and “For Good,” that have become staples of musical theater. The music, composed by Stephen Schwartz, is both catchy and emotionally resonant, perfectly complementing the show’s themes and storyline.
