CASTING CALL “JACKKNIFE” FEATURE FILM “JACKKNIFE”
SHOOTING LOCATION: NIAGARA REGION (CANADA, ONTARIO)
JACKKNIFE is a sociopolitical drama that’s like “Thelma and Louise” meets “Huckleberry Finn”.
“A fun afternoon of fishing turns frightening when a young black brother and sister are attacked in the woods by a drifter. While fighting him off, the brother accidentally kills their would-be molester with a jackknife. Terrified of what the police will believe, the kids flee, setting out on a Mark Twain style adventure that will ultimately end in tragedy.”
We are urgently casting for this micro budget feature. We will be accepting self-taped auditions from now until AUG 31st 2023. We will be filming in southern Ontario, Canada (Hamilton, Niagara) and being local is ideal but we will consider everyone.

CHARACTER BREAK DOWNS:
TY – (14-17) light skinned, mixed race (black/white) Ty is a young man trying to find himself and his place in the world. He’s struggling with having to grow up so quickly after the loss of his father.
JAZZ – (13) light skinned, mixed race (black/white) Jazz is a smart, resourceful and fierce young teen. She is sentimental and admires her big brother, trusting in his protection, yet she sometimes pushes back, searching for independence in her adolescence.
LIZ – (35-40’s), white. Liz is a protective mother. She is hyper-aware of the racial biases that exist for her mixed race children, especially since the passing of her husband. She suffers emotionally but fiercely shows up for kids in every way.
DETECTIVE PETERSON – (40’s) is a good cop who is good at his job and believes in the system. He’s not afraid to cross the thin blue line to do what’s right.
SHERIFF CLARKE -(50-70) he’s an old time law man who believes he is the law and will challenge anyone who crosses him.
BENNY – (16) tall thin, gangly, class clown type.
PUD – (15) quite heavy set, Silent Bob type.
DEPUTIES PHIL & RYAN – (25 -40) classic mismatched, odd couple, cop partners.
GRANOLA COUPLE – (20-30) Wanna be hippies trying to disconnect from their electronics and reconnect with each other.
