Auditions for “Fiddler on the Roof” in Albert Lea, MN

Auditions for the beloved musical “Fiddler on the Roof” in Minnesota.

The Albert Lea Community Theater announced auditions for “Fiddler on the Roof.” In person auditions will take place on April 16 and 17 at the Marion Ross Performing Arts Center, located at 147 N. Broadway in Albert Lea.  The show is scheduled for eight performances from June 20 to 30. Roles are available for individuals of all ages, including a limited number for children aged 8 and above.

Fiddler on the Roof is et in the quaint village of Antevka, the story revolves around Tevye, a humble milkman, and his five daughters. Against the backdrop of a vibrant Jewish community, Tevye endeavors to safeguard his daughters and uphold traditional values amidst the changing societal norms and rising anti-Semitism in Czarist Russia. Featuring tunes like “Tradition,” “If I Were a Rich Man,” and “Matchmaker, Matchmaker,” this production is seeking a cast that can bring this story and it’s timeless music to life.

Auditions for children aged 8–16 will begin at 6 p.m., followed by auditions for individuals aged 17 and older at approximately 7 p.m. For those unable to attend auditions in person, please contact director Gordy Handeland at 507-279-1014 before April 17 to arrange an alternative audition.

The audition process:
You will sign in and fill out an audition form to tell us about yourself. Don’t worry if you’ve never done this before — experience isn’t required. A script will be given to you at the auditions. You will be asked to read from the script and sing from sheet music, and learn a few dance steps, along with others who are auditioning. Anyone who would like to audition but is unable to attend in person on the audition nights should contact the director, Gordy Handeland, at 507-279-1014 before April 17.

Roles:
There are roles available for men and women of various ages and there are a limited number of roles available for children in this play.

Rehearsals:
Not long after auditions, rehearsals will be scheduled weeknights, with some weekend involvement closer to the performance dates, which are June 20, 21, 22, 23, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30.
