Rosdeale Community Players/Secondhand Rose Players – The Resurrectionist

Auditions will consist exclusively of cold readings from the script. Copies of the relevant cuts will be provided to those wishing to attend the Zoom auditions. Please, in the interest of time, ONLY ATTEND one night of auditions.
Rehearsals will run early April 2024 through the end of May 2024. Reasonable, pre-disclosed conflicts will be considered when developing the rehearsal schedule. Mandatory dates will include tech rehearsals May 28th-30th. Each performance will be performed in person at Rosedale Community Players’ theater space at Peace Lutheran Church located at 17029 W 13 Mile Road Southfield MI 48076

ACTOR REQUIREMENTS: We are seeking actors (18+) of any size, race, ethnicity or gender identity. This production will be ensemble-based in nature and will require a willingness to play, explore, and create as a group.
SYNOPSIS:
It is 1890 and Clara Williams must disguise herself as a man in order to achieve her dream of becoming a doctor. Unfortunate events force her to befriend a surly gravedigger named Jack, who’s busy protecting his graveyard from ‘resurrectionists’ or body snatchers who dig up corpses for profit.
It’s modern day and Roxie Brown has quit her job and moved back home to make it big as a poet. Her dreams may be dashed as her mother gives her an ultimatum – one that causes her to team up with Drew – a genius, bullheaded medical student who gets on Roxie’s last nerve.
As the story unfolds, it’s clear that love isn’t the only thing connecting these two women across space and time.
CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS:
The Past (Late 1800s):
CLARA: Female-presenting, age/color blind. Woman who disguises herself as a man to become a doctor.
JACK: Male-presenting, age/color blind. Surly gravedigger who watches over his graveyard with a protective eye.
MARY: Female-presenting, age/color blind. Clara’s friend and housekeeper of the hospital.
JOHN: Male-presenting, age/color blind. Medical student at Clara’s school. The villain.
DR. MILLER: Age/color/gender blind. Doctor at the medical school.
CLERGYMAN: Age/color/gender blind. Clergyman in the graveyard.
The Present:
ROXIE: Female-presenting, age/color blind. Woman who dreams of becoming a poet.
DREW: Male-presenting, age/color blind. Medical student who is a genius, but cold and socially inept.
NICOLE: Female-presenting, age/color blind. Roxie’s sister who is a medical student in Drew’s cohort.
MARCELLA: Female-presenting, age/color blind. Roxie and Nicole’s mother.
DR. GRAYSON: Age/color/gender blind. Doctor at the medical school.
