Open Auditions in Maryland for “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat”

Upcoming AUDITIONS for JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT!

The Washington County Playhouse Dinner Theater is proud to announce AUDITIONS for JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT!

Audition Details:

Auditions will be held on Tuesday, April 23rd & Wednesday, April 24th, 2024.
Sign in begins at 6:00pm. Auditions start at 6:30pm. Must be signed in no later than 7:00pm.
Auditionees only need to attend one night of auditions.
All roles are open.
Must be 18+ to audition.
Swings/Understudies may be cast/considered. The role of The Narrator may be double cast or understudied with guaranteed performances.

What to Prepare:

Please bring headshot and resume with you to audition.
Please prepare 16 bars of a song in the style of the show to be sung a cappella. You may be asked to learn/sing a song from Joseph… at auditions, so familiarity with the cast recording is highly encouraged, but not necessary.

Be prepared to perform cold readings from the script.
There will be a dance audition, so please bring or wear clothes that you can move in and that show our choreographer how you move.
While in-person auditions are preferred for our production team, we will accept video submissions if auditionees are unable to appear in person.
Video submissions must be sent via email to washcoplayhouseauditions@gmail.com by NO LATER THAN 7:00pm (EST) on Monday, April 22nd.

In this email, please include your headshot, resume, a self-tape of you singing your prepared 16 bars in the style of the show. If you have dance experience or a dance reel, please also include that in your email. Finally, please include any rehearsal conflicts spanning April 29-July 18, 2024 and any performance conflicts with any of the below dates.

Performances:

Andrew Lloyd Webber’s JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT!
This fun and energetic musical plays on our MainStage July 19-August 18.

Performance Dates:

Friday and Saturday evenings July 19, 20, 26, 27, August 2, 3, 9, 10, 16, 17, and Sunday matinees July 21, 28, August 11, 18.
All performers will be paid a per-performance stipend. Additionally, those cast will be given the opportunity to join the restaurant service staff (if legally eligible, and following training) where they may earn gratuities.

Must reside within driving distance to Hagerstown, MD. Housing is not provided.

Character Breakdown:

  • NARRATOR
    An actress with a strong rock singing voice (high best to E full range Mezzo) who is strong on comedy and moves well.
  • JOSEPH
    Tenor. The eleventh son of Jacob. Obviously his father’s favourite, Joseph early on shows a talent for interpreting dreams and telling the future. This gets him into trouble with his brothers when he predicts his future will include ruling over the other eleven. However, it saves his life when in Egypt he correctly interprets Pharaoh’s dreams. In the end he has risen to a great position of power, but he still forgives his brothers and brings his family to Egypt to partake of the bounty he has accumulated there.
  • JACOB
    JOSEPH’s father. An actor in his 50’s/60’s with a baritone voice.
  • JOSEPH’S BROTHERS
    Eleven brothers with strong singing voices, the ability to dance, and contrasting body types and ethnicities. Requires featured solo brothers for Country and Western style in “One More Angel in Heaven,” Jacques Brel/Maurice Chevalier style for “Canaan Days,” two brothers to double the BUTLER and BAKER, and a strong dancer with partnering ability (Adagio) in “The Apache.”
  • REUBEN
  • SIMEON

  • JUDAH – Sings Harry Belafonte style in “Benjamin Calypso”
  • POTIPHAR
    A Noel Coward type character. Baritone. Can be played by the actor playing JACOB.
  • MRS. POTIPHAR
    Alto/Mezzo
  • BUTLER
    Tenor/Baritone, played by a brother. Character role with a look that contrasts with the BAKER.
  • BAKER
    Tenor/Baritone, played by a brother. Character role with a look that contrasts with the BUTLER.
  • PHAROAH
    Good actor/singer with Tenor/Baritone range. Elvis Presley impersonator type who moves well.
  • ENSEMBLE
    Minimum of 11 girls to play the wives of JOSEPH’S BROTHERS, including a strong female dancer with partnering ability (Adagio) in “The Apache.”
