Dani Coan and Burning Coal Second Stage Series presents
Ex-Boyfriends

Stage Manager: Sarah Poole
Audition dates: Monday, February 5th and Wednesday, February 7th at 7:00pm
Performance Dates: Two shows per weekend for the first three weekends in June, including June 6th-9th, 14th-16th, and 21st-23rd.
Tech Rehearsal Dates (attendance is required): June 1st-3rd with final run-throughs June 3rd-5th.
Location for auditions, rehearsals, and performances: Auditions and some rehearsals will take place at Burning Coal’s warehouse space located at 3056 Barrow Drive. Tech rehearsals and performances will take place at Burning Coal Theatre Company, located at 224 Polk St, Raleigh, NC 27604.
Rehearsal schedule: Rehearsals will begin Monday, May 6th, and will typically be held on weekdays from 7:00-10:00 pm and Sunday afternoons from 1:00-4:00 pm. The final rehearsal calendar will be based on cast availability.
To prepare, please bring a 1 minute dramatic or comedic monologue. We will ask you to read sides from the script during the audition. Please fill out the online audition form and be prepared to fill out a conflict calendar. We will also accept last-minute walk ups for auditions AND online submissions.
Show Summary:
Step into Maya’s world of love, laughter, and heartbreak as she takes you on a wild ride through the complex landscape of her past relationships in Ex-Boyfriends. This thought-provoking and hilarious show delves into the depths of Maya’s psyche, where her ex-boyfriends double as manifestations of her inner struggles and are turned into puppet versions of themselves. From grappling with religion to challenging toxic masculinity, each former flame represents a unique facet of Maya’s emotional journey. Get ready to laugh, cry, and reflect on love, life, and the tangled threads that connect us all.

The Characters:
We welcome and encourage qualified performers of all ages, ethnicities, body types, and genders to audition. Please feel free to audition regardless of the age and gender listed for each character.
JO, Any gender, 25-55
Maya’s therapist. A calm and reflective person who acts as a guide and advocate, age range and appearance flexible.
ADAM, Male, 18-30
The first man (ex-boyfriend). Overachieving, immature, and religious.
BRYCE, Male, 18-30
A sexy simpleton obsessed with image, working out, and picking up chicks.
DAMON, Male, 18-30
A controlling and emotionally manipulative sadist who longs for connection and perfection.
CHARLIE, Male, 18-30
A handsome and tortured philosopher who struggles to take action.
All actors will be paid a $100 stipend for their work.
