Nutley Little Theatre Announces Auditions for “Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead”

Nutley Little Theatre is holding auditions for Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead by Bert V. Royal, directed by Skylar LeRose. Auditions will take place on June 30 and July 1 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Nutley Little Theatre, located at 47 Erie Place, Nutley, NJ.

This bold and thought-provoking dark comedy reimagines the beloved “Peanuts” characters as troubled teens navigating high school. After the death of his dog, CB is consumed by grief and begins questioning everything — from the afterlife to his social identity. His friendships, mental health, and sexuality are thrown into turmoil when he unexpectedly reconnects with Beethoven, a former friend and frequent target of bullying.

Dog Sees God tackles intense themes like grief, bullying, identity, mental illness, and self-acceptance. It’s a powerful ensemble piece that offers actors the opportunity to explore raw and layered emotional material while delivering sharp comedic moments.

Auditions:

June 30 and July 1 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM
Nutley Little Theatre, located at 47 Erie Place, Nutley, NJ.

Character Breakdown:

CB – A teen based on Charlie Brown; grieving, introspective, questioning his sexuality.

Beethoven – Based on the musical Peanuts character; gay, bullied, withdrawn, deeply tied to his music.

Matt – Based on Pigpen; aggressive, angry, outwardly macho, dealing with internalized homophobia.

CB’s Sister – Based on Sally; goth, eccentric, processing loss differently than CB, infatuated with Beethoven.

Van – Based on Linus; mellow stoner, philosophical, a voice of reason among chaos.

Tricia – Based on Peppermint Patty; popular mean girl, insecure beneath her confidence.

Marcy – Based on Marcy; nerdy yet popular, loyal to Tricia, socially awkward and unsure.

Van’s Sister – Based on Lucy; institutionalized for pyromania, wrestling with mental illness and past trauma.

Auditions are open to performers high school age and up. The production welcomes a diverse range of actors and encourages those of all backgrounds, identities, and experience levels to audition. Sides will be provided at the audition and you may also see the sides here. — no monologue required.
