Cast Call for Passion Short Film Project: Why Gamble on Love?
Type: Student Film
Location: Los Angeles
Logline: Jayce, an Asian woman pressured to marry, visits a matchmaking agency her mother recommends, only to discover it’s a one-stop assimilation service grooming perfect Asian wives for white men.
Characters:
JAYCE (late 20s) is an Asian woman, sharp, observant, and quietly skeptical. She enters a high-end matchmaking agency with irony and disbelief, gradually finds herself seduced by its logic and promise of certainty, and finally experiences a moment of clarity that snaps her back to herself. Requires strong comedic timing, nuanced emotional shifts, and the ability to balance satire with vulnerability.
LING (40s) is a polished senior Asian consultant at a luxury matchmaking agency. Charismatic, precise, and unsettlingly calm, she speaks in the language of success and certainty. Once a client herself, she genuinely believes in the system she now enforces. Requires authority, restraint, and the ability to let cracks show beneath perfection.
