Nutley Little Theatre Announces Auditions for “Doll House: Part 2”

Nutley Little Theatre announces auditions for A DOLL’S HOUSE PART 2, written by Lucas Hnath and directed by Wanda Maragni.

About the show:

Fifteen years after Nora Helmer slammed the door on her stifling domestic life, she is knocking at that same door, having returned with an urgent request for her former husband.

A Doll’s House, Part 2” is a sequel to Ibsen’s classic, original play.  It has been 15 years since Nora Helmer left her marriage and her children to find a new life.  She now returns with an urgent request of her husband, Torvald.  The play continues to look at traditional gender roles, human relationships, identity and, of course, societal expectations.

Nora Helmer – late 40’s-early 50’s; a successful, feminist writer who returns 15 years after leaving her family. She is a strong, independent woman who returns to try to salvage her new life.

Torvald Helmer – 50’s; a banker and Nora’s husband who had to raise their 3 children after Nora left. He has very traditional views and has struggled to adapt to life alone.

Anne Marie – 60-70; the Helmer’s housekeeper/nanny who stayed to help raise the children. She is practical, may be stern and resents Nora for leaving. She had also been Nora’s nanny.

Emmy – late teen’s to early 20’s; Torvald and Nora’s daughter. Raised by Anne Marie after her mother’s departure, she is a self-assured young woman who we find to be a lot like her mother.
