Roles:
LITTLE ROANO (AGE: 7 – 14 \\ African American): Little Roano is the little boy version of our main character, Roano. Little Roano is quiet, growing up in a world that tries to force him into the boundaries of its racial groupings. Being a Honduran Garifuna, Little Roano grows up with two types of friend groups- Latino and Black. This dual identity leads Little Roano to not trust his own sense of self without his Pa’s supportive voice. As such, Little Roano is contemplative, sensitive and cautious, only opening up when his Pa reminds him of his own buried strength.
CHIP (Age: 35-50 \\ White): [Though envisioned as a man (particularly with a bushy mustache), this role is open to all genders and identities, so long as they are of Anglo-Saxon / European dissent. Channel your inner Will Arnett/Jillian Bell.]
Chip is the proverbial coffee shop owner who doesn’t give a shit about anyone but his/herself. Disconnected from the reality and emotions of others, Chip acts as if the world is bent to serve their needs. As such, Chip is uncaring and distant from the main character and simply is trying to get a new employee to cover their own ass.
Little Boy 1 (Age 7-14 \\ African American): One of Little Roano’s friends. Little Boy 1 is in a scuffle early in the film with Little Boy 2.
Little Boy 2 (Age 7-14 \\ Latino): Little Boy 2 is also one of Little Roano’s friends. Little Boy 2 is in a scuffle with Little Boy 1 early in the film. *Little Boy 2 must know how to / be able to learn how to say their lines in Spanish.*
