The child and teenage vignettes feature a story of childhood friendship turning into an unrequited adolescent crush; the two characters have been friends since the shy boy moved in next door to the outgoing and friendly little girl. We see them growing up before our eyes, in one scene they’re running to school as kids, the next they’re teenagers attending high school together.
They both care for each other deeply, but the young man was always hoping for more, but happy to stay on the sidelines until the week leading up to a school dance.
