“Wicked” offers a unique perspective on L. Frank Baum’s timeless tale, “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz,” by retelling the story from the viewpoint of the witches. Based on Gregory Maguire’s novel, “Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West,” the musical delves into the untold backstory of the iconic characters.

Set before Dorothy’s arrival in Oz, the narrative explores the complex relationship between Elphaba, the misunderstood Wicked Witch of the West, and Glinda, the popular and bubbly Good Witch of the North. As the plot unfolds, audiences witness the evolution of their friendship, the challenges they face, and the events that ultimately shape the Land of Oz.

AUDITION NOTICE: OPEN CALL FOR SINGERS IN CHICAGO – WICKED
Seeking singers who move well, ages 18 and above, of any ethnicity and gender, with outstanding voices and a wide vocal range for principal and ensemble roles in the two North American productions of WICKED.
OPEN SINGERS CALL: Monday, May 20, 2024 10:30am – 1:30pm LOCATION: Ballet Chicago, 17 North State Street, 19th Floor, Chicago, IL 60602
Please do not arrive prior to 10:00am. You must arrive prior to 1:30pm to be considered.
Equity and Non-Equity singers are welcome to attend. Authorization to legally work in the United States is required.
Prepare to sing a cappella 16 bars of a contemporary musical theatre song showing range. Sopranos may sing 16 bars of a traditional legit musical theatre song showing range. Please also bring sheet music in case you are asked to sing with piano accompaniment. Please bring a photo/resume stapled together. Potential callbacks will occur on May 21 and 22.
