Open auditions announced for Oscar & Hammerstein’s musical “The Sound of Music” on Broadway.
This audition notice is for the 2027 season.
The Sound of Music is a musical set in Austria on the eve of World War II. The story follows Maria, a young woman preparing to become a nun who is sent to serve as governess to the seven children of widowed naval captain Georg von Trapp. Through music, warmth, and a strong sense of family, Maria brings new life to the household and eventually falls in love with the captain. The musical features classic songs including “Do-Re-Mi,” “My Favorite Things,” “Edelweiss,” and “Climb Ev’ry Mountain.”

THE SOUND OF MUSIC on Broadway 2027 — Seeking Virtual Submissions for von Trapp Children
This Google form is set up to collect submission videos for the six roles that will be played by juvenile actors in the Broadway revival of THE SOUND OF MUSIC at Lincoln Center Theater. These roles are Friedrich, Louisa, Kurt, Brigitta, Marta, and Gretl von Trapp. All juvenile actors should be at least seven years of age by the rehearsal start date of February 1, 2027.
No professional experience necessary to audition. We encourage performers of all gender identities to submit. SEEKING NEW YORK LOCAL HIRES. AUTHORIZATION TO LEGALLY WORK IN THE UNITED STATES IS REQUIRED.
Submissions are due by September 18, 2026.

SUBMISSION TAPING INSTRUCTIONS:

THE SOUND OF MUSIC MATERIALS
Please record the following (You may submit these as three separate files):
1) A slate that includes your name, your height, where you are currently based, and a full body shot. For those under the age of 18, please state your date of birth. For those auditioning for the roles of MARTA and GRETL, please also verbally confirm that you will be age seven by the rehearsal start date of February 1, 2027.
2) If you are auditioning for the roles of FRIEDRICH or KURT, please prepare the cut of “So Long, Farewell.” If you are auditioning for the roles of LOUISA, BRIGITTA, MARTA, or GRETL, please prepare either “Do-Re-Mi” or “My Favorite Things (Reprise)” — CHOOSE ONE. There are teaching (“plunk”) MP3s for each song to help you learn it. Then when you are ready to record, you should use the accompaniment MP3.
3) Please record one side for the character for which you feel you are best suited.
If you are using an iPhone to video record, please be sure to film horizontally and in a well-lit space (not backlit). Please provide a viewable/downloadable link in the appropriate box below. We are not able to download files (i.e. WeTransfer, Hightail). Dropbox and Google Drive tend to work best (and REMINDER TO MAKE THE SETTINGS ACCESSIBLE TO ANYONE WITH THE LINK — we are not able to request access!). Reminder that YouTube links are not downloadable, so best to avoid YouTube.
