Open Auditions for Professional Singers – Opera Colorado

Opera Colorado invites local singers to audition for its upcoming season.

Opera Colorado one of the leading performing arts organizations in the Rocky Mountain region, producing grand opera productions, concerts, and educational programs in Denver. Founded in 1983, the company is known for staging classic and contemporary operas at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House while also supporting local artists and arts education throughout the community. Opera Colorado regularly features internationally recognized performers alongside regional talent and has continued expanding its professional programs, including its fully paid chorus ensemble.

Opera Colorado is looking towards the 2026–27 season and inviting local singers to audition for its professional chorus ensemble. Open auditions for chorus will be held on Thursday, June 4, and Saturday, June 6.

The chorus is a fully professional and paid ensemble who will perform in its upcoming productions of Verdi’s “Macbeth” and Mozart’s “School for Lovers (Così fan tutte)” at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House at the Denver Performing Arts Complex.

The company recently transitioned its chorus into a fully professional paid ensemble, marking a major step forward in its support of working artists. Opera Colorado is also currently negotiating its first Collective Bargaining Agreement with the American Guild of Musical Artists, reflecting a broader commitment to fair compensation and sustainable working conditions.

Auditions will be held June 4 and June 6 at the Opera Colorado Opera Center in Englewood.

Singers of all voice types are encouraged to audition and should prepare two selections from opera or art song repertoire, including one piece in a foreign language, preferably Italian.

Auditions Notice for Singers in Colorado:

Opera Colorado said it will audition all voice types. Singers should prepare two selections from art song or opera repertoire, and one must be in a foreign language, preferably Italian. Repertoire should be memorized and a pianist will be provided.

Chorus auditions:

Please note that the location for the vocalist auditions is different than the performance address.

  • Thursday, June 4, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
  • and Saturday, June 6, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Opera Colorado Opera Center, located at 4121 S. Navajo Street, Ste 100, in Englewood.

All material should be memorized, and a pianist will be provided. The audition panel will include Assistant Conductor and Chorus Master Sahar Nouri, Artistic Director and CEO Barbara Lynne Jamison, and Director of Programs and Partnerships Dennis Robinson Jr.
