Synopsis:
David Horne is graduating high school. He wants to attend Juilliard, like his mother, and become a concert pianist. His step-father, Thomas, has other plans for David. David’s mother, and a family friend, make David’s dream come true. But when his mother dies unexpectedly, David is faced with a hard choice.
Character BIOS:
[DAVID] [GENDER: MALE] [AGE: 18-25]
David begins the story at age 18 and ends at age 26. David is a musician. He worries about his mother, and dislikes his domineering step-father. Sheltered, and a bit detached from reality, he is determined to be a concert pianist.
[CYNTHIA] [GENDER: FEMALE] [AGE: 40-45]
Cynthia was a promising student at Juilliard, a pianist, when she met and married the man of her dreams. After he died, Cynthia married a “good provider.” Her relationship with her second husband, Thomas, is cordial.
[THOMAS] [GENDER: MALE] [AGE: 50-60]
Thomas, real estate tycoon, is a serious business man. He is practical and stern: a man to be taken seriously. He married Cynthia when she had no where else to go, and even took in her son. He has given them everything, and now his step-son, David wants to throw his life away on an impractical dream. Thomas is determined to bring David into the real world, and help him to grow up. Thomas does not allow talk of David’s real father.

William went to Juilliard with Cynthia. They were the best of friends. William even introduced Cynthia to her first husband Jack, David’s father. Now William works at Juilliard. He takes great delight in showing David the joys of a musical education. He becomes David’s best friend.

[MR. MITCHEL] [GENDER: MALE] [AGE: 70-75]
David’s Grandfather – on his father’s side. He really doesn’t like Thomas, and has been following David’s progress for years.
