Rush Call for L.A. Actors on Web Series Project “GodComplX”

GodComplX

Location: Los Angeles

Type: Web series

An impressive, up-and-coming female programmer moves into a live-work space filled with like-minded tech industry 20-somethings, kick-starting a chain of events that will lead to huge highs and lows as she navigates a meteoric rise through Silicon Beach.

GodComplX is a narrative web series produced in collaboration with Google’s Computer Science in Media Program — an educational initiative at Google with the mission of increasing the representation of women and minority characters that work in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) careers. In producing this series, we look to further Google’s initiative by not only casting female and diverse actors in STEM roles, but by also hiring female and diverse crew throughout the production. This project will bring YouTube creators/actors and traditional media creators (with many of the writing and production team coming from television backgrounds) together in an opportunity to collaborate, learn from each other, and support an important initiative — in addition to providing an opportunity for creators/actors to gain experience working with a professional casting director and TV director.

Character Breakdown:

Sabrina (mid-20s, African-American)
Highly recruited out of an Ivy League computer science program, Sabrina’s status as an in-demand computer programmer is light-years away from where she was as a young teenager, when she was fighting tooth and nail to get into a well-respected college program like she knew she deserved. Coming from a lower-middle class family, she’s the first person in her family to go to college. Now, after years of hard work and dedication, she’s exactly where she wants to be — upwardly mobile at a top tech firm, with lofty career aspirations of becoming CEO of her own company.

Reid (mid-20s, white)
Semi-famous among tech industry insiders, Reid developed an early home-automation program in his early 20s, largely from being lazy and having the technical skills to hack his home into doing mundane chores and tasks so he could play more video games. Ultimately, deep down he has a good heart, but his ego and lack of social skills keeps most people from ever seeing it.

Leyla (mid-20s, any race)
She’s… eccentric, tending to spout out every random thought that comes to mind, changing topics mid conversation, and often seeming like she’s not paying attention — all of which would typically label her as ditsy, except for the fact that she’s completely brilliant.

Francisco (mid-20s, any race)
As the least successful loft mate, Francisco is insecure, shy, and aloof. He’s also impossibly kind, with a self-deprecating sense of humor and non-judgmental, understanding temperament

Molly (early 30s, any race)?Molly is Leyla’s girlfriend, and an honorary resident of the GodComplX. An actual Rocket Scientist, she works for NASA at the Jet Propulsion Lab, currently working on the next Mars mission. While she imagines herself as tough and fierce, her southern sweetness and adorableness with Leyla often get the best of her — much to her chagrin.

Lee (early 20s, any race)
Lee is a young coder who is constantly working on his laptop. He works two full-time jobs from the couch, not because he has to, but because he has a plan to retire by 32 and a half. Driven and focused. Often jumps into the middle of conversations with jokes or observations without even looking up from his computer.
