“Straight Outta Compton” seems to be moving along and beginning production in Los Angeles.
The film’s extras casting directors in Los Angeles have issued a casting call for African American extras in the L.A. area. The film will be needing all ages and is currently taking submissions from those who live in the Los Angeles area and would like to be extras on the project.
The film had multiple casting calls / auditions nationwide to fill the lead roles some months back, seems they have their main cast now and looking for L.A. area extras. The rumor has been that F. Gary Gray would be directing the film about notorious Rap group, N.W.A. which gave rise to rap / hip hop legends Dr. Dre and Ice Cube. Ice Cube’s Cube Vision Production Company along with Dr. Dre’s Crucial Films and Eazy E’s widow, Tomica Woods were reported to be producing the project. A few weeks back there was an announcement that Cube’s son would be playing the rapper turned actor in the film.
According to IMDB, the film will focus on NWA and its members as they emerge from the streets of Compton, California in the mid 1980’s. 5 teens come together to form NWA and translate their brutal surroundings into a music form. The group will go on to revolutionize pop culture with their music and bring stories about the reality of life in the hood to the masses. IMDB goes on to list Corey Hawkins, Jason Mitchell and O’Shea Jackson Jr. as part of the film’s cast.
The film currently has a theatrical release date of August 14, 2015.
