The members of the McCrae Family Band struggle with these decisions as their 3 year gospel group falls a part in the original musical OUR FATHER, written by Lauren A. Evans.
VINE PRODUCTIONS is seeking to hire actors and singers for an ensemble cast to perform in 3 productions during its 2016 season. VINE PRODUCTIONS’ first production, OUR FATHER, will be considered for the 2016 Atlanta Black Theatre Festival, and needs talented performers and crew members.

Saturday Jan 23, 2016 from 10:00am to 2:00pm at the Metroplex Theatre 1331 Metropolitan Pkwy SW, Atlanta, GA 30310
To reserve an audition slot email your headshot and resume to vineproductions@email.com. Submitting a demo reel is a plus, but not required. Put the character you are auditioning for in the subject. Ex: Lamar or AUNT DAWN (See character descriptions below)
Please prepare (1) a 30 second to 1 minute dramatic or comedic monologue and/ or (2) a 30 second to 1 minute gospel song to be sung a capella (without music), audition is not to exceed 2 minutes total.
Rehearsals begin the week of February 1, 2016. Specific dates and times TBD after casting
Performance Date will be Saturday, March 26, 2016 at 8pm
Acacia McCrae

Strong Actor with great vocal ability
Acacia is the new lead singer of the McCrae Family band. Daughter of Olen McCrae and sister of Lamar. She is determined to please her father by taking over their failing music group. But when money gets tight she wonders about choosing another career path.
Lamar McCrae
20s, Male, African-American
Strong Actor with great vocal ability
Lamar is the charming, opportunist of the family. Former lead singer of the McCrae Family band, Lamar left his Christian roots to play in a pop band in Europe, but with trouble at home Lamar has returned to an unforgiving sister, Acacia.
Kyra
17, Female, AA
Actor with great vocal ability
Eager young Kyra is a huge fan of the McCrae family band who sneaks from her hometown to audition as a singer. However, she’s having trouble hiding her true motives from the wise Miss Dawn, the group manager.
Dawn Shepard
40s-50s, Female, AA
Strong Actor
The wise, witty, and tactful Aunt Dawn is the group manager of the McCrae Family band. She’s her older brother, Olen McCrae’s, right hand woman. She counsels her nieces and nephews as the voice of reason making sure they remember that God is ultimately in control.
Olen McCrae
50s-60, Male, AA
Strong Actor, vocal ability is a plus, but not required.
Olen McCrae, the father of Acacia and Lamar, has had great success as a minister, musical composer, and producer of his family’s band. Lately Olen hasn’t had the time or the money to devote to his band, but he calls in reinforcements as he attempts to muster up his strength to right the wrongs of his past.
Victoria James
30s-40s, Female, AA
Experienced Actor
The stylishly professional Victoria James, Vickie, is an old time friend of Olen McCrae. This sassy lady decides to come to Georgia to pay him a visit, at his request. But she questions his every move because she knew Olen before he was saved.
Lena/ Leon
20s-30, M/F, AA
Comedic actor, ensemble singing is highly preferred, but not required
Lena/ Leon is the sibling of Jazmin and cousin of Acacia & Lamar. She/he is the naive comic relief of the family. Book smart, but it takes her/ him a while to make sense of what’s common.
Jazmin
20s-30, Female, AA
Comedic actor, ensemble singing is highly preferred, but not required
Jazmin is a realist. The sister of Lena/Leon and cousin of Acacia & Lamar. Outspoken & Stubborn, She isn’t too sure about staying with the band anymore because the money isn’t worth it. After all she has a child to consider.
Pianist, Male, any age
Experienced pianist and musician
The pianist has a dual role of extra and sound technician.
Those interested in the pianist role should email headshot/ resume and samples to vineproductions@mail.com You DO NOT need to attend the audition. The pianist must be able to play the underscore throughout the play as well as take on a few lines in the beginning of the play.
