Queen Sugar New Season Now Casting extras in New Orleans
The OWN drama “Queen Sugar” is returning for season 3 and new episodes are now in production in the New Orleans, Louisiana area. Caballero Casting in Louisiana is looking for locals to fill some small, non-speaking roles in upcoming episodes of “Queen Sugar.”
“Queen Sugar” was created by Selma director, Ava DuVernay. Season 1 was executive produced by DuVernay and Oprah Winfrey. Back in 2014 Oprah Winfrey and Ava DuVernay teamed up for the worked the feature film Selma together which went on to be nominated or win multiple awards including Selma 4 Golden Globe Award nominations, won NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Motion Picture, nominated for Academy Award Best Picture and won Best Original Song at the 87th Academy Awards. According to Deadline, Monica Macer is heading up season as executive producer and showrunner. Macer will take over for Ava DuVernay and Melissa Carter who were the showrunners for the first season.
OWN picked up Ava DuVernay’s “Queen Sugar” before season 1 even premiered and has expanded season 2 to include 16 episodes which is 3 more than season 1. In a Variety story, Erik Logan, president, OWN commented on the renewal stating “When we saw the first cut from Ava we knew right away that we wanted a second season,” Logan also added “We think viewers are going to connect with the deeply layered characters and powerful story and are excited to be able to share with them Ava’s director’s cut on premiere night without interruption. We are proud to be a network that supports a filmmaker’s creative vision.”
“Queen Sugar” tells the story of the estranged Bordelon siblings in Louisiana. At the center of the family are Nova, a journalist and activist; Charley, the wife and manager of an NBA player; and formerly incarcerated father Ralph Angel, who is searching for redemption. Following a tragedy in the family, the siblings must put their complicated lives aside so that they can come together to run the clan’s struggling sugar cane farm. Also involved in the farm are Aunt Violet and family friend Remy Newell.
