Universal Pictures is filming a biopic based on the life of the legendary performer James Brown also known as the Godfather of soul, “Get On Up”.
James Brown us known as one of the founding fathers of funk and was a major figure in the early days of dance music. He influenced many genres of music and his career spanned 6 decades. In the 60’s Brown had some hit singles that included “Papa’s Got a Brand New Bag”, “I Got You (I Feel Good)” and “It’s a Man’s Man’s Man’s World”.
Brown was active on the music scene from 1954 all the way to his death in 2006.
Universal Pictures casting directors are seeking actors, musicians and extras for the James Brown film. The film is now being called “Get On Up” and the open call is scheduled for this coming Saturday, September 21 at 11:00 a.m. through 4:30 p.m.
Casting directors are looking for actors, musicians and extras of all ethnicities and ages to audition for the upcoming drama about the life of James Brown.
Mississippi locals of all ethnicities are welcome to come on down to the event and apply to be on the film. Since this is a period piece that spans from the 30’s to the 80’s, period hairstyles will be a plus, think afros. If you have very short or shaved hair, please let your hair grow if you would like to be considered to be an extra or featured extra in the movie. Musicians are also welcome to apply, but those without musical talents are also welcome.

The film will begin filming later this fall in Mississippi around the Jackson and Natchez areas.
The open casting call will be for actors, musicians and extras. All are welcome to attend the open auditions and try to land a job in the film.
This film is scheduled to be released in late 2014.
