Synopsis: ”Listen” is a short film about domestic violence. Lauren Stephenson is a victim of abuse and she is finally telling the story of her life; the people around her and the situation she’s found herself in. But is anyone truly listening?

Character BIOS

[LAUREN STEPHENSON] [GENDER: FEMALE] [AFRICAN –AMERICAN] [AGE: 30-35]
Lauren opens up about her life; learning of her daughter’s pain, being criticized by her mother, abused by her husband and how she deals with her confliction between keeping her family together or getting help.

[JAY STEPHENSON] [GENDER: MALE] [AFRICAN-AMERICAN] [AGE: 30-35]
Jay is unsatisfied with his life and he takes his frustrations out on his wife. Even though he is unhappy, he refuses to let his family go.

[SYDNEY STEPHENSON] [GENDER: FEMALE] [AFRICAN –AMERICAN] [AGE: 10-12]
Sydney is a brave young girl who has been harboring hatred towards her father for the way he treats her mother. She wishes nothing more than for her mother to leave.

[VANESSA LITTLE] [GENDER: FEMALE] [AFRICAN –AMERICAN] [AGE: 50-55]
Vanessa, Lauren’s mother, is a snobby, old fashioned woman who believes that the role of a mother and a wife is to keep her family intact, no matter what.

Listen II Me is an annual fundraising event brought to you by VIIXV by Mirror Images. This event is to bring awareness to the issue of violence against women and a portion of the proceeds will be donated towards Dr. Roz’s Healing Place to assist in workshops of empowerment. This short film will be exhibited at their event on July 1st, 2012 at T2 Lounge in Woodbrige, ON.
