Open auditions in Illinois for Circa ’21 Dinner Playhouse’s production of “Diary of a Wimpy Kid.”

Circa ’21 Dinner Playhouse in Rock Island invites local actors of all ages to audition for their upcoming Theatre for Young Audience production of “Diary of a Wimpy Kid.”

The production dates, including rehearsals, are scheduled from March 11th to May 18th, and all roles in this professional production are paid.

Rock Island is a city located in the state of Illinois. It is situated in the western part of the state, along the Mississippi River, and is part of the Quad Cities metropolitan area, which also includes cities like Davenport and Bettendorf in Iowa, as well as Moline and East Moline in Illinois.

Roles to be filled include Greg Heffley, Rowley Jefferson, Manny Heffley, Rodrick Heffley, Chirag Gupta, Patty Farrell, Fregly, and various ensemble roles. Each character brings a unique personality to the stage, from the ambitious and overachieving Patty Farrell to the quirky and odd-ball Fregly. This promises to be an exciting opportunity for actors of all backgrounds and talents to showcase their skills in a fun and dynamic production.

Greg Heffley

Gender: Male
Age: 11 years old
Description: A first-year middle schooler with a burning desire to achieve popularity and acclaim, at all costs. Equal parts cocky and insecure, Greg’s single-focus on popularity often makes him short-sighted and immature, almost costing him his closest friendship. Seeking a strong, comedic young performer with a powerful, unchanged singing voice.

Rowley Jefferson

Gender: Male
Age: 11 years old
Description: A first-year middle schooler, with a determinedly sunny disposition and über positive outlook on life. Almost blindly devoted to Greg, but ultimately capable of standing up for himself. Seeking a strong, comedic young performer with a powerful, unchanged singing voice.

Manny Heffley

Gender: Male
Age: Toddler
Description: Impossibly adorable and spoiled baby brother of Greg and Rodrick. Manny enjoys exalted status as his parents dote on him and make constant excuses for his behavior. Seeking strong comedic young performer.

Rodrick Heffley

Gender: Male
Age: Middle schooler
Description: Sullen, sarcastic older brother of Greg, and his main tormentor. Brash and obnoxious, Rodrick is the frontman of the heavy-metal, garage band; Löded Diper and delights in torturing Greg and taxing their parents’ goodwill. Seeking strong, comedic young performer with a powerful, singing voice. Vocal Range: High rock tenor. Mix to D5.

Chirag Gupta

Gender: Male
Age: 16 years old
Description: Greg’s quick-witted and wily classmate, who is enthusiastically engaged in a year’s long prank-battle with Greg. Seeking a strong, comedic young performer with a powerful unchanged singing voice.

Patty Farrell

Gender: Female
Age: Middle schooler
Description: A middle school girl, ambitious, driven, overachieving classmate of Greg’s. Always out to best him at every turn, Patty sees success as the only destination. Seeking a strong, comedic young performer with a powerful singing voice.

Fregly

Gender: Male
Age: Middle schooler
Description: Greg’s deeply odd-ball classmate, who is sensitive to sugar and unapologetically interested in his own boogers. Seeking a strong, comedic young performer with a powerful, unchanged singing voice.

Ensemble

Gender: Various
Description: Seeking additional performers to play a variety of roles, including Bryce Anderson (dreamboat classmate of Greg’s who enjoys unfettered adoration and popularity), Chris Hosey & Lionel James (elementary school buddies Greg is trying to move beyond), Joshie (Boy Band teen heartthrob), Yvette & Pauline (part of the popular Patty Farell groupies) and Teen Thugs (members of Rodrick’s prank-playing, head-bashing crowd).

What to Prepare:

Auditionees should prepare 16-32 bars of an up-tempo contemporary musical theatre selection. An accompanist will be provided. Additionally, candidates should bring their sheet music in the proper key, along with a current headshot and resume. Auditionees may be asked to read from the show and/or learn a short choreography routine.

For those unable to attend the open call, online submissions will be accepted.

Auditions will be held on Saturday, February 10th at 10 a.m. at the theater located at 1828 3rd Ave., Rock Island. Director Kimberly Vanderginst is seeking multiple child actors and several adult actors who are proficient in singing and dancing. All ages and ethnicities are encouraged to attend.
